What is Medifast?
Medifast is a portion-controlled, nutritionally balanced, low fat program. Medifast meals come in individual packets that you mix with water, microwave, &/or refrigerate. Medifast is available in a wide variety of foods & flavors including shakes, puddings, soups/stew, chili, oatmeal, bars, & hot beverages.
How Does Medifast Work?
The Medifast diet is broken into 3 stages: 5&1, transition, & maintenance.
Stage 1: Medifast 5&1
||This program is the real low calorie part of the Medifast diet. During this stage you will be consuming between 800-1000 calories a day in the form of 5 pre-prepared Medifast meals & one high protein low fat meal that would include chicken, fish or tofu, & salad or vegetables. There are over 50 Medifast meals & snacks to choose from. Each pre-prepared Medifast meal contain around 100 calories.
Stage 2: Transition
During this stage you will gradually decrease the amount of Medifast meals you eat & increase the amount of regular food. There is also a slow increase in calories up to 1,500 per day. All of this happens over a period of 16-27 days.
Stage 3: Maintenance
The maintenance stage is critical for keeping the fat off. In this 2-3 month period you should eat meals of no more than 1,500 calories.
Would I like the Medifast Food?
Some people were found to like Medifast food, while others didn't. However, most people agreed that the food was better than what they got on other diets. If you are the on the typical American high sugar/high fat diet, then this will be an initial shock to you.
Is it difficult to stay on the Medifast Program?
This is a strict program. Like any diet, it requires commitment. The truth is, it's a challenge at the beginning.
How much does Medifast cost?
4 weeks on Medifast usually costs $300. The Medifast plan requires you to prepare a Lean & Green meal every day which consists of lean chicken, steak, fish, eggs, & vegetables. The Lean & Green meal will cost about $120 for 4 weeks. Therefore, your total expense with Medifast will be $240 for the prepared meals, plus $120 for your Lean&Green meals that adds up to $360.(This is for one person.)
Will I gain the weight back? What will happen when I start eating real food again?
The Transition Plan gradually adds calories back into your diet while giving your body time to adjust to the new levels of calories & carbs. Most people continue to use 2-3 Medifast Meals per day as part of their ongoing Maintenance Plan.
